tour our dojo

Our dojo was designed with intention.

At Doomsday Defense Dojo, every detail was designed to create an environment that feels calm, focused, and purposeful. Clean lines, open space, and a zen-like atmosphere allow you to step away from the noise and fully lock in on your training.

But more than anything, this dojo was created to feel welcoming.

Whether you’re stepping on the mat for the first time or you’ve been training for years, this is a space where you belong. It carries its own energy—one rooted in discipline, growth, and community. A place where people come to challenge themselves, support one another, and build something deeper than just skill.

For many, this isn’t just a gym—it’s a safe space to grow, connect, and become stronger in every sense of the word.

Your first day at a martial arts gym can feel intimidating. We get it.

At Doomsday Defense Dojo, you don't need experience, special equipment or a certain fitness level to walk through the door. Come ready to learn. We'll take care of the rest.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET HERE?

01 — COME IN

Arrive about 10–15 minutes early for your first visit. We'll get you oriented, answer any questions and show you around before training begins.

02 — SHOES OFF AT THE MAT

Shoes stay off the training mats. You'll have a place for your belongings and we'll show you where everything goes.

03 — MEET YOUR COACH

Tell us you're new. Your coach will explain what you're working on, pair you appropriately and help you through the session.

04 — TRAIN AT YOUR PACE

You're not expected to know anything on day one. Ask questions. Take breaks when you need them. Learn. Nobody expects you to prove yourself.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

BJJ / MMA / STRIKING

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move:

YES: Athletic shorts • Leggings • T-shirt • Compression shirt • Rash guard

AVOID: Jeans • Clothing with zippers or metal • Jewelry • Watches • Anything that could scratch you or your training partner

Don't own a Gi or rash guard yet? That's okay. You don't need to buy a bunch of equipment before your first visit. If you have boxing or MMA gloves, shin guards, and/or a mouth guard, you are welcome to bring them, but we have plenty of equipment for your first class.

BEFORE YOU STEP ON THE MAT

CLEAN GEAR. CLEAN BODY.
Come to training clean and wear freshly washed training clothes.

TRIM YOUR NAILS.
Fingernails and toenails should be short and smooth.

NO SHOES ON THE MAT.
Shoes come off before entering the training area.

NO BARE FEET OFF THE MAT.
Wear slides or shoes when using the restroom or walking outside the training area.

REMOVE JEWELRY.
Rings, earrings, necklaces, watches and other jewelry should come off before training.

RESPECT YOUR TRAINING PARTNER.
Control matters. Tap early. Release immediately when someone taps. Take care of the people who help you train.

NEW TO MARTIAL ARTS?

PERFECT.

You don't need to “get in shape first.”

You don't need to know how to fight.

You don't need to be flexible.

You don't need to understand martial arts terminology.

And you definitely don't need to prove how tough you are.

That's what training is for.

A FEW WORDS YOU'LL HEAR

GI — The traditional jacket and pants worn in some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes.

NO-GI — Grappling without the traditional gi, usually in a rash guard and shorts/spats.

ROLL — Live grappling practice.

SPAR — Live striking or MMA practice performed with appropriate control.

TAP — Your way of saying “stop.” Tap your partner or the mat clearly. Your partner releases immediately.

DRILL — Repeating a technique with a partner to learn and develop the movement.

OPEN MAT — Less structured training time for drilling, rolling and working on skills.

YOUR FIRST JOB ISN'T TO BE GOOD.

IT'S TO COME BACK.

Everybody you see training today had a first day.

Give yourself permission to be new. Pay attention. Ask questions. Be a good training partner. Then come back and do it again.

That's how this works.
